Announcements, 2.16.2017

Apologies for the delay in getting the announcements out this week. Read on for exciting updates about New Student Night tomorrow, as well as for prayer!

As exams, papers, projects, and winter blues kick in, we pray that you will find rest, peace, comfort, joy, hope, and love in God and in community. Don’t ever hesitate to reach out to anyone (friends, leaders, staff, etc.) because we’re all here for another.

“‘Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them’, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.'” –Revelation 7:16-17

This week we’re taking a break from our usual Large Group series to present you New Student Night ( a Large Group planned and executed completely by new students)!

New students before their prayer meeting!

Is God big enough? Can God reach all people? Can God help us go forth as advocates even though we feel compelled and validated to be accusers? This week we will explore these questions through a passage from the Gospel of John.

Jonathan Kim, a member of the AIV freshman class, will be speaking to us on this topic.

This past Saturday was the kick-off to 40 Days of Prayer, an event on our campus hosted by University Lutheran Chapel (home to Common Cup). For the next few weeks, people and students from different ministries in our community go to the prayer room to pray for things happening in our world, nation, and campus. Here’s a recap of our first week of posts about prayer – things to be praying for and ideas to rejuvenate your prayer life!

If you haven’t yet gotten plugged into one of our community groups, please join our Facebook groups and/contact a leader to get involved! Community groups are the heart of our chapter. They are a place for everyone, regardless of spiritual background, to learn more about Christianity and build fun community that loves and cares for one another and campus. This semester, we are studying scripture from the book of Revelation.

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” –Ephesians 6:18
Look out for Facebook posts about our prayer meetings that happen Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: please also join us Mondays at 6 pm to pray for our South Asian friends and peers on campus as we work in sharing the gospel widely and being more pan-Asian!

Our relationship with God is and should be measured by so much more than our mere attendance at large groups, community groups, and church – God wants us to to know Him personally: “So that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.” (Acts 17:27)

If you don’t already read the Bible regularly, check out the Bible Project’s  2017 reading plan that several people in the chapter are following. You can also browse through the wealth of topical plans from the Bible app.

Or, if you have questions about faith, explore them- here is a list of all the different faith-related books people in AIV have. Feel free to ask to borrow a book or invite a few friends to read with you!

AIV is a para-church ministry, which essentially means that we are not a church- our students attend various churches on campus. We coordinate rides to Knox Presbyterian Church and Grace Ann Arbor; here is also a list of other churches in the Ann Arbor area.
