As Asian Americans, we often feel as if we are overlooked by American society. But even in our own ethnic communities, we may feel as if we don’t truly belong since we are not quite Asian either. The consequence of this is often a heartbreaking sense of inadequacy out of a notion of not fitting in anywhere. It has become convenient and even beneficial to forget about our ethnic identities, but how can we when God designed us uniquely in this way? How can we even begin to understand and then to affirm our identities as Asian Americans? Our identities are in Christ alone, but Christ affirms our cultures.
Our very own staffworker Oliver Lam will be speaking to us this week. Get hype!!
Post Large Group will be a competition between underclassmen and upperclassmen – stay tuned to find out what it is!
LAST DAY TO REGISTER FOR DP DAY IS MIDNIGHT ON FRIDAY, 3/17.
Sign up to volunteer with AIV at DP Day (happening Saturday, April 1, from 8 am to 5 pm): be sure to mark “With my student organization, fraternity, sorority, residence hall or company.” for the question “I am signing up to volunteer,’ and then select “Asian InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.”
“Detroit Partnership Day is the largest day of service learning at the University of Michigan! DP Day volunteers will work alongside Detroiters and fellow U of M students on a variety of tasks. The event is a chance to learn about the city, have fun and make a difference. DP Day is as much about exposing students to the great organizations and people in the city as much as it is about the work.”
We firmly believe that a life following Christ is also a life of service for others out of the love that God first showed us. So many places in scripture, from the Old Testament to the New Testament, declare God’s heart for all his people:
“I, the Lord, command you to do what is just and right. Protect the person who is being cheated from the one who is cheating him. Do not ill-treat or oppress foreigners, orphans, or widows; and do not kill innocent people in this holy place.” – Jeremiah 22:3
Contact Grace Wan (email@example.com) if you have any trouble registering or any other questions or concerns.
